jobs, jobs, jobs and sugar

This job hunt thing is getting really boring and repetitive.  This morning I drove to Davis to get fingerprinted and two other applicants ahead of me were wearing shorts and flip flops.  I felt very overdressed.

In between hunting I've been starting to get the yard ready for summer, trying out recipes and reading.

Yesterday I made lavender syrup and it was really easy.  It's just like making hummingbird food but with less sugar and tons of lavender.  I used half the sugar that was recommended and it was still too sweet for me, even with soda water.  I have more of a chocolate sweet tooth than a sugary/candy sweet tooth.

I'm not much of an ice cream person either but every so often I want pistachio or cherry ice cream/gelato.  That one on the top left is the one I usually buy straight from Italy SaveMart.  They often have a special where you can get 2 for $5.  Last night I tried the Key Lime Graham one on the right.  It tasted just like key lime cheesecake.  So delicious.  Have you had Duplo's before?  There are three hazelnuts and hazelnut cream within a wafer chocolate bar type thing.  V's Mom sends them to us for birthdays and holidays and I also saw them at World Market.  A real fancy treat.

Want to see something cute?  YOU DO?  OK!

Whimsy

Thanks to J for sharing this lovely creation with me.  No, these are not my nails.  On the website, the heading for the photo says: THE MANICURE THAT ANNOUNCES YOUR WHIMSY AND YOUR UNEMPLOYMENT.

I know I am unemployed but if I ever, EVER do this to my nails, please at least buy me a flower so I can rest my hands on it to take an elegant photo.

I looked at jobs all day today.  I mostly looked on the UC Davis website and their application process is repetitive.  For each job you apply for, you have to respond to some of the same questions for each application (have you ever been convicted of a felony, can you legally work in the US, bla bla bla) and answer some job specific questions.  I mostly applied for administrative positions and some of the questions asked what experience I had making travel arrangements for executives.  Trying to write a serious response to that without sounding like a nerd is nearly impossible.

Eyes glazing over

What is a glazing technician?  I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me but it's a real job posted on craigslist.  There is also an opening for a hot dog cart operator.  Slim pickins.

Maybe I could become a hotdog glazing technician and make this decadent meal.
It's Weight Watchers so it must be healthy!

Job hunting

There isn't anything much worse than job hunting and tailoring several cover letters to the job I'm applying for which basically say, "PLEASE CALL ME I'M THE BEST".

I applied for 5 jobs yesterday and am still waiting to (possibly, hopefully) hear something back from my old job, which was actually a really great place to work.  I had my own office with a door, a window, had speakers so I could listen to my own music and almost had art of my own choosing up on the wall (I had to leave because of my expired work permit right after they ordered my art prints) and my boss and supervisor were really great.

I hope I get some calls for interviews.  I like to get something new for my interview outfit whenever I'm on the prowl for a paycheque.  It makes me feel a little more confident when I'm wearing something brand new.  I think a bright silk blouse might be nice with a tweed skirt and heels.

I am really into blouses right now.  I'm an old marm.
