We did a little boutique browsing in midtown too. Everywhere mostly seemed to sell synthetic clothing. I just can't do synthetic, especially in this heat.

Stay cool
A friend posted on fb about a popsicle stand at the Wednesday Farmers Market at Cesar Chavez park (between 10 and 2). I know a lady who happens to love popsicles so I roped her into coming along with me. I had the coconut flake which was made with silk coconut milk and J had the pina colada popsicle. Three cheers and two popsicles for summer!
MakeUP-DATE
Thanks to everyone for their makeup and shopping suggestions yesterday. I really had no idea you could ask for a sample of makeup at places. I now have 4 samples to try out over the next few days.
The lady at Sephora was one of those completely done up makeup ladies. She looked really good but up close it you could still tell she was totally covered up.
She put three different colours of thick stripes of the Nars Pure Radiance makeup on my face and told me she liked the colour "Alaska" on me the best. It was really yellow! I said, don't you think the "Finland" is better since my face is more pinky than yellow? And she said, "oh yeah, you're right".
I asked her about another tinted moisturizer with SPF that C had recommended by Philosophy and the sales lady said, "yeah, we have that brand, it's over there" and she pointed to another section. I had to ask her to help me pick a colour and then ask for another sample. It was like pulling teeth... or like squeezing makeup out of the end of a tube! So tough. Maybe she could see that I was an online shopper and not worth the time.
I was given a sample of the NARS in "Finland". I thought it was moisturizer but the sales lady wrote it was "mosturizer" and she's the expert. I've been spelling it wrong all these years.
The product description says my skin will be provided with a translucent veil of colour and my skin will be transported! TO WHERE?
I also picked up a Philosophy tinted moisturizer sample. Or should I say "Phylosophy" "mosturizer". The product description says it glorifies all skin types! I hope my skin doesn't get too haughty with its new found glory.
Then I went to the Clinique counter at Macy's on the way out to the car since I use their Perfectly Real foundation. I was picking up products and putting them down to get some attention and the sales associate came over and stood in front of me, looked at me, and finally asked if I needed help. I told her what I was looking for and she kept staring at me without saying anything, (long, weird pause). I had someplace to be so I initiated the possible sale.
Me: "is there anything you can recommend?"
(long pause)
Sales lady: "Oh yeah, we have this, this and this product with SPF."
Me: "I want light coverage, do you have anything that would work"
(long pause)
Sales lady: "Well, this might work"
Me: "Can you help me choose a colour"
Sales lady: "Oh, on your face?"
Me: "Yes, please"
(long pause), some shuffling around of products.
Sales lady: Can you sit down, you're way too tall for me
Me: (sits down)
I ended up leaving with two samples though so it was sort of worth the weirdness.
Today I'm trying out the Nars one. When I touch my face it feels a little sticky, which I don't like. I'm going to go walk around outside later and see how it holds up in 90 degree heat.

Melting
Summer is definitely here. It's so hot out! Makeup melting weather!
I saw a print ad for some tinted moisturizer with SPF from Nars. I'm curious about it so I did a little bit of snooping online to see what other people thought of it. It has mostly great reviews. Has anyone tried it? Someone wrote that it has silicone in it which I think has given me issues in the past. So, if silicone works with your skin it will make it look smooth and radiant but if it doesn't it will make you break out and look like a pimply teen. I'm not sure I'm willing to drop $40 to find out which category I fall under.
Are there any other tinted moisturizers that you recommend? I am currently putting on my sunscreen and then using Clinique's Perfectly Real foundation, which I love because it's so light but putting 2 things on my face every morning is getting dull and what I want is PURE RADIANCE!!!!
In other beauty news, I have decided to start doing some exercise again. I had to buy myself a new pilates ball. Let's say my old one got lost in the move. My new one is exactly the same as my old one and arrived last week. I've been doing sit-ups and push ups every other day so I'm going to get really buff and start frequenting Bar West. Look out Sacramento.

jobs, jobs, jobs and sugar
This job hunt thing is getting really boring and repetitive. This morning I drove to Davis to get fingerprinted and two other applicants ahead of me were wearing shorts and flip flops. I felt very overdressed.
In between hunting I've been starting to get the yard ready for summer, trying out recipes and reading.
Yesterday I made lavender syrup and it was really easy. It's just like making hummingbird food but with less sugar and tons of lavender. I used half the sugar that was recommended and it was still too sweet for me, even with soda water. I have more of a chocolate sweet tooth than a sugary/candy sweet tooth.
I'm not much of an ice cream person either but every so often I want pistachio or cherry ice cream/gelato. That one on the top left is the one I usually buy straight from Italy SaveMart. They often have a special where you can get 2 for $5. Last night I tried the Key Lime Graham one on the right. It tasted just like key lime cheesecake. So delicious. Have you had Duplo's before? There are three hazelnuts and hazelnut cream within a wafer chocolate bar type thing. V's Mom sends them to us for birthdays and holidays and I also saw them at World Market. A real fancy treat.

Smart cat, funny shows
This is J's cat, Misora. Isn't he cute? Just a lil round fuzzball trying on my glasses and totally loving it.
We watched Girls and Mad Men last night. I love those shows so much! Girls is so sassy and dirty. I don't remember talking like that in my 20s but I also didn't live in New York and date creeps, except for one guy that was such a creep that I kicked him to the curb right away. He was disgusting and thought he was so suave. That tall, lanky dude Hannah's seeing on the show is such a pig. And what about the dude from Lonely Island? Kind of a jerk but she seemed into it.
I really liked Betty and wasn't sure about Don's new wife but now I love her more than Betty. Don't you? I was starting to get a little bored with the show last season but things are really getting good with Megan's character. I guess this post is a little vague but I don't want to put any spoilers out there for peeps who haven't seen it yet.

Hot Trends
Remember chain letters? I once did one in highschool for a panty exchange where you had to buy one pair of underpants and mail it to the first person on the list and then you'd get hundreds of panties in return. That was weird and I never got any panties.
Isn't the word panties gross?
It's not exactly like a chain letter but my real-life far away friend, Danielle, is doing a blog challenge type thing where you write about 7 things that are currently "trending" in your life. I don't think I've ever been very trendy because I buy, read, eat, drink and think about things that I like and am interested in and don't worry too much about what other people are into. Although there were those really sparkly shoes that I returned last year because too many people thought they were ugly. I guess a little bit of influence is a good thing.
1. Pocket sunscreen stick
I picked this up last week at a grocery store (along with mint and limes to make birthday mojotos for V). As an older lady, I have a couple of sunspots that I want to keep covered up when I'm out in the sun. Along with my regular sunscreen I put this zinc sunscreen stick on the larger spots and keep it in my purse for touch ups.
2. Red pants.
Ok, fine. Coloured pants are a serious trend that I wasn't sure I could pull off but I do like my red pants because they are actual pants and not stretchy leggings like a lot of the ones out there. I got them on insane clearance at Macy's (75% off). They were the last ones on the rack and in my size. I couldn't pass them up for 35$.
3. Movies at the Drive In/ Horror movies
I love horror movies and I love the drive in. Those 2 things together are perfect! Last night we saw Cabin in the Woods. I need to see it again because some of the movie scenes were too dark for the brightness of the Drive In so I couldn't really see what was going on at very key moments. Also, screen three at the Sacramento 6 Drive In has bright white lights behind it from what seems to be a parking lot beyond the theatre which was really distracting and made it harder to see. (Also, trending now : me whining about screen 3 at the Drive In).
4. Organised paperwork
In the past year I've had a lot of different paperwork floating around that I need to keep organized. I use coloured folders, pretty folders, fancy paperclips and post it notes to keep organised. Last week I was getting my health insurance sorted out and this week I'm working on car insurance and changing my name. I have a bunch of these coloured folders in different sizes. They're great for keeping everything sealed and together. I keep my passport and birth certificate in a half sized one.

Balance
My friend and I went for a 2-hour walk this morning with her sweet pup along the river near old fair oaks . Then we got treats at Dianda's. I didn't eat mine yet but I bet it's good.
